Abstract [en]

The primary purpose of this thesis isto analyze the possibilities to transform the textile industry towards more sustainability from a theoretical and industrial perspective. The focus is on cotton fiber production, whose production procedures have a high environmental impact and therefore contributing greatly to climate change. Secondly, the potential of man-made cellulose fibers, like viscose and lyocell, to relieve the demand for cotton in the future and to meet the environmental challenge are discussed.

Conclusively, the key factors of the transformation in the textile industry are identified, and an evaluation of the future development of the industry takes place.
