Abstract [en]

In this paper we consider reliability optimization in optical networks. We present both a general view and our recent results in the field. It is shown that monitoring of optical signal can significantly improve network reliability performance and, in some cases, can be considered as a cost effective alternative for achieving a certain level of connection availability. Finally, the presented sensitivity analysis gives a guideline for improving network reliability in a cost effective way.
