LES of the turbulent mixing process in a T-junction with stationary and pulsating inflow conditions

The turbulent mixing process in a T-junction with circular cross-sections is investigated by means of large eddy simulations (LES). First, stationary boundary conditions are applied in order to assess the grid sensitivity and the numerical method by experimental data. The most important flow mechanisms governing the mixing process are identified for the stationary case. Secondly, the corresponding case with pulsating inflow conditions is considered. The effect of pulsations on the mixing process is assessed.
