Abstract [sv]

En del fjällvandrare tycker att det är för tungt att gå med en stor ryggsäck, ett problem som har givit upphov till en idé om ett avlastande hjälpmedel. Företaget Prodelox AB har sedan tidigare påbörjat utvecklingen av detta hjälpmedel. Under detta examensarbete har ett koncept utvecklats med den initiala studien som utgångspunkt. Produktens grundidé är i dagsläget sekretessbelagd och kommer tyvärr inte att redovisas i denna rapport.En användarstudie genomfördes vilket resulterade i en kravspecifikation, produktens definition, samt en djupare bild av fjällvandring och andra friluftsaktiviteter. Denna djupa inblick möjliggjordes med hjälp av context mapping-metoden. Studien visade att enkelhet och flexibilitet värderas högt av de som utövar fjällvandring.Med resultatet från användarstudien som grund inleddes konceptutvecklingsfasen. Under denna definierades olika funktioner av produkten där fler lösningar utvecklades till varje funktion. Lösningarna kombinerades, utvärderades och resulterade i ett koncept.En taktilitetsstudie genomfördes för att undersöka vilka material som ger den önskade upplevelse av produkten, då ”pålitligt”, ”slitstark” och ”naturnära” definierades som önskade upplevelser. Resultaten visade att materialytor som gav den önskade upplevelsen var kalla, med grövre textur, strävare och torrare. I studien undersöktes även de mätbara materialegenskaperna, vilket visade att materialytor med lägre friktionskoefficient beskrevs som torrare, strävare och grovkornigare (med vissa undantag). Inget tydligt samband kunde ses mellan friktionskoefficienten och upplevelserna ”pålitligt” och ”slitstarkt”. Däremot fanns en tendens att lägre friktion upplevdes som mer ”naturnära”. En annan slutsats som kunde dras var att typen av material (metall, trä eller plast) påverkade hur de upplevdes. Denna påverkan förstärktes när testpersonerna fick se materialen vid sin bedömning.Det resulterande konceptet fick namnet Skalbaggen för att hylla fjällvandrarens kärlek till naturen. Skalbaggen är tänkt att användas under sommarsäsongen i de svenska fjällen och främst under långa turer. För den tänkta konstruktionen ansågs plast vara mest lämpat för ändamålen och plastytan som väljs bör vara sträv, mindre fuktig och ha en grov textur.

Abstract [en]

Some hikers experience that carrying a backpack is too heavy and therefore an idea arose of a product relieving heavy loads. The company Prodelox AB has earlier started development of such a product. In this master thesis a concept has been developed with this initial work as a starting point. The main idea of the product is confidential, therefore the report does not include any description concept.A user study was conducted and resulted in a list of requirements, definition of the product and a deeper insight into hiking and other outdoor activities. This deep insight was obtained by means of the context mapping technique. The user study showed that opposite values such as simplicity and flexibility are the main core in hiking.The results from the user study led to a concept generating phase, during which different problems were defined and a number of solutions to each problem were created. Solutions were cross-combined together and evaluated with a tentative concept as a result.Tactile studies were conducted in order to investigate what kind of materials will give the desired experience of the product. The desired experiences were defined as “trustworthy”, “hard-wearing” and “close to nature”. The results showed that material surfaces that gave the desired experience were described as being cold, rough, dry and having a coarse texture. The study also included measurable parameters, which concluded that surfaces with low friction factor were most often described as drier, rougher and coarser. No clear relation could be seen between friction factor and the experiences “trustworthy” and “hard-wearing”. However, a low friction factor contributed to the experience “closer to nature”. Another conclusion that could be drawn was that the type of material (metal, wood or plastic) had some influence on the experience. The influence was even more prominent when the participant could see the material.The final concept was developed and named Skalbaggen (Swedish for “beetle”) as a tribute to hikers’ love for nature. The concept is designed for hiking in Swedish mountains during the summer season and for long trips. Plastic was considered as a suitable material for the proposed design and, based on the tactile studies, the surface of the chosen material should be rough, dry and have coarser texture.
