Abstract [en]

This paper presents a multicast handover extension of the Inter-Access Point Protocol (IAPP) to support adaptive QoS for wireless multimedia communications in Wireless LAN systems. We introduce the concepts of mutlicast handover, neighbor list and neighborcast in the IAPP. The use of Neighborcast improves coordination between nearby access points and hence provides the possibility for multicast handover and adaptive QoS support. Since coordination between neighbors of the access point are more important that that of far away access points, by deploying the neighborcast concet, not only can adaptive QoS be supported but also the scailability of the systems can be improved.
