Abstract [en]

A diffuse-interface model of reactive wetting with intermetallic formation is presented. The model incorporates fluidflow, solute diffusion, and phase change that are based on the total molar Gibbs energy of a ternary system with fourphases. Numerical simulations were performed successfully revealing the complex behavior of the reactive wettingprocess that include nucleation and growth of an intermetallic phase, and initial rapid spreading followed by a slowand progressive spreading. In addition, the nucleation and growth of the intermetallic phase is shown to be directlyinfluenced by its kinetic coefficient or the interface energy associated with it.
