Positioning with Bluetooth

Abstract [en]

This paper presents an evaluation of Bluetooth positioningin a general positioning platform. Proceeding the evaluationa Bluetooth based positioning system was implementedin order to complement the theoretical evaluation with empiricaltests.Three different ways of positioning with Bluetooth havebeen developed. With a registered positioning service aBluetooth device has an active role in the positioning taskas it sends a position on request. A Bluetooth device canalso take a more passive role in a positioning task, wherethe unique address of the device is used by a connected deviceto look up respective position in a database. It is alsopossible to forward a position gained from the positioningplatform using the peer to peer characteristics in Bluetooth.This paper does also contain a discussion on the theoreticaltime requirements for a positioning system basedon Bluetooth. Empirical tests show that these requirementshold.
