NOVELTY - The method involves sending a hibernation request from the phone to the base station. The station sends a signal to set the phone into a hibernation state for a set length of time. The phone listens for paging messages from the base station. USE - For power management of mobile phones. ADVANTAGE - Reduces power consumption of a mobile telephone by making the phone stay in a hibernating state until it either hears a paging message from a base station or determines that it has a data packet to send to the base station (BS). DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a flow diagram of BS functions.
