Microstructural characterization of injection moulded composites using image analysis

A complete procedure for the assessment of the microstructure of discontinuous fibre composites is described. Image analysis routines are developed, which analyse scanned images of metallographically polished surfaces and evaluate spatial orientation distributions and volume fractions of the fibres. The paper deals with image analysis problems, limitations in the analysis, and the interpretation of the results. Â© 1991.
