CyberMath -  A Shared 3D Virtual Environment for Exploring Mathematics

Abstract [en]

We present CyberMath, an avatar-based shared virtualenvironment aimed at improving the current problematicsituation in mathematics education. CyberMath allowsmathematics to be presented in a new and exciting wayand is suitable for exploring and teaching mathematics insituations both where teacher and students are co-presentand physically separated. CyberMath also supports avariety of teaching styles, ranging from traditional one-tomanylectures to teacher-supported interaction andindividual off-line exploration. We also summarize theresults of two initial usability studies of our system.
