An Architecture To Provide Cloud Based Security Services For Smartphones

Smartphones offer functionalities to end users whichwere formerly only provided by personal computers. However,the adaptation of technologies enabling these functionalities alsoinherited the vulnerabilities of these technologies. To enablesmartphones to address these threats appropriate security measureshave to be identified and implemented. Another technologywhich has recently gained popularity is cloud computing. Dueto the resource constraints of smartphones, realizing securityservices for smartphones in the form of cloud services seem tobe a natural fit. This paper proposes a generic architecture forproviding security services in the cloud for smartphones withina corporate environment. Preliminary results of experimentalperformance and battery measurements are presented supportingthe core idea of the architecture to offload computationallyexpensive security functions from smartphones to resource richcloud environments.
