Abstract [en]

A new service has been developed a service where the position of every unit in the system can be determined and its position can be viewed on its web page.

Each mobile unit is equipped with a MFU from Magnatec, which contains a GPS receiver and a GSM modem inside. The processor in the MFU reads the GPS coordinates and sends them via SMS messages. The position can be sent in response to a request or periodically. The MFU can also be connected to sensors and when one of them goes off an alarm is sent. This system should not be viewed as a complete service, but rather as a base that can be used to build up a lot of services. When you consider the fact that every mobile phone will be able to give its position in the near future this project reflects what might soon be possible with many phones.

Because this system has been built using the Teligent P90 E platform it is expected to be able to scale to support very large numbers of users.
