Teaching presence in online communities of inquiry: What learners need from facilitators in online environments

Students making the transition to online learning maneuver an adjustment phase, drawing direction and support from the course design, other students and the instructor. In a recent study of novice online learners, aspects of required support from online facilitators were identified.
