Web-based Management of an Edge Router
Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
The continued explosion of the Internet and the expansion of network infrastructures have resulted in the development of new network management systems – Web-based Management Systems (WMSs). WMSs offer a new level of freedom of access, over traditional applications, which result in a number of advantages, including a more efficient use of resources (human and computer).
This thesis report describes the work undertaken to implement such a WMS for the Ericsson AXI 510 Edge Router. This work was conducted at Ericsson Telecom AB from June to November 1998. The report includes a review of background material that identifies the critical motivations and technical aspects behind WMS development. These include consideration of system performance, development choices, and an overview of current vendor offerings.
Subsequent sections of the report outline the goals behind the project, a description of the chosen design, and details about the implementation and performance analysis.
