Chassis Concept for a Stroller (English)
Abstract [sv]

Syftet har varit att i en förstudie åt BRIO ta fram ett koncept till en ny barnvagn. Detta koncept

ska ligga till grund för fortsatt utvecklingsarbete hos företaget. Den nya barnvagnen, som

benämns resebarnvagn, ska vara ett komplement till BRIO:s nuvarande sortiment ”To Go”.

Vagnen ska vara en

Allt i ett

-vagn och ska således vara brukbar i flera skeden av ett barns första

uppväxtår. Barnvagnen ska vara konkurrenskraftig på en internationell marknad och attraktiv för

en målgrupp som kallas "On The Go Parent".

Målet för konstruktionen var att den skulle uppfylla krav på minimal vikt (hela barnvagnen

ska väga under 8 kg), minimal volym (hopfällt läge ska vagnen ha dimensionerna 550 x 400 x

200 mm) och färre komponenter (färre än 100 stycken). Avgränsningen var att fokusera på

chassikonstruktionen. Övriga delar skulle bidra med att skapa en helhetsbild av barnvagnen

men genomgick bara en enklare analys i jämförelse med chassikonstruktionen.

Barnvagnskonceptet, Cubic

som togs fram har ett chassi i form av en kolfiberlaminerad

sandwichstruktur. Barnvagnen är att betrakta som en vision till vad som kan tillverkas i den allt

mer växande barnvagnsindustrin snarare än en färdig produkt som kan sättas i produktion. Cubic

blickar fram fem till tio år i tiden för hur barnvagnar kan komma att se ut. Det som kan sägas är

att barnvagnen har ett innovativt utseende till skillnad för vad som finns på marknaden idag. Den

har en kropp istället för ett system av ledade rör.

Cubic

fick en vikt på 8,95 kg, en volym på 745 x 480 x 280 mm i fällt läge och det totala

antalet komponenter uppgick till 125 stycken. Vidare tester utifrån Europeiska

säkerhetsstandarden, EN1888:2003 måste göras på barnvagnskonceptet innan den kan tänkas

sättas i produktion.

Abstract [en]

The purpose was to develop a concept design of a stroller for the Swedish company BRIO and

this design was to be a foundation for further work. The stroller was to be an all-in-one. This

meant that it could be used during all of the first years of a growing baby and that parents only

needed one stroller during this period. The final product was to be suited on an international

market and attract a target group called “On the Go Parent”.

The main goal of the design was that it should be lightweight (no more than 8 kg for the whole

stroller), have a minimum volume (the stroller should not exceed the dimensions 550 x 400 x 200

mm when folded) and include fewer components (less than one hundred).

The main focus was the design of the chassis and secondary work was any relating parts.

However the final product had to look coherent and stylish.

The final concept design called Cubic

has a chassis composed of a carbon fibre laminated

sandwich structure. The concept is more of a future vision with a perspective of five to ten years

of what a stroller might look like than a finished product. The fibre composite body gives the

stroller a unique and innovative look compared to contemporary designs. Stroller chassis designs

of today are usually made up of aluminium tubes which are more skeleton-like. A new material

for the stroller industry has been introduced, carbon fibre, which has the stiffness and the strength

benefits along with low weight.

´s final weight was 8,95 kg and its volume 745 x 480 x 280 mm in its minimum state.

The total amount of components was 125. Before Cubic

3

is put into production it must

undergo several tests to see whether it withstands the stress and strengths levels set by the

European Standard protocol, EN1888:2003.
