Abstract [sv]

Syftet med studien har varit att undersöka möjligheten att skapa en enkel modell att undersöka optimal hantering av avfall i Sverige. Den modellen skulle i så fall ingå som en del i ett regerings uppdrag om det är möjligt att sätta upp ett nationellt miljömål mot ökat effektivt användande av resursen som avfall utgör. Studien har utförts på uppdrag av Naturvårdsverket inom ramen för examensarbete inom civilingenjörsprogrammet i kemiteknik på KTH.

Inledande genomfördes ett antal intervjuer för att skapa en god bild av hur avfalls Sverige ser ut och inom vilka områden det finns potential för optimering. Sedan studerades artiklar, böcker och rapporter samt en stor mängd statistik som tillhandahölls från Naturvårdsverket samt RVF undersöktes. En bild av hur modellen skulle behöva se ut togs fram. Enkla försök genomfördes i excell med den statistik som fanns tillgänglig men brister i tillgänglig data. Tyvärr medförde bristande pålitlighet av data svårigheter att i denna enkla modell få fram relevant output.

Svårigheter uppstod tidigt till på grund av bristen av tillgänglig data samt i brister på modellens utformning. Resultatet av studien är att modellen i den enkelhet som den var tänkt inte är lämplig för så pass avancerade studier och utan tillgängliga data.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study has been to look at the possibility of creating a simple model to examine the optimal way to handle the waste in Sweden. The model should in that case be a part of a commissioned by the Government to find out if it is possible to find a national environmental target towards a more effective use of the waste as a resource in Sweden. The study has been performed on demand of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency within the program of Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at KTH.

In the start up of the study some interviews were made to give an overview picture of how the Swedish waste was taken care of, and in which areas there are possibilities for optimization. Also articles, books, reports and a large amount of statistics from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and RVF was studied. A picture of the model as created. Some simple attempts to use the model with available data was made in Excel. Unfortunately the insufficiency in the statistic data did result in difficulties to get relevant output from the model.

Difficulties came up early in the study as a result of lack of available data and because of the simplified design of the model. The results of the study indicate that the model is too simple to fit the advanced studies needed by the Government and that the model needs more data in order to work properly
