Of the energy consumption in Sweden stands the construction sector for 39% of the total energy use. That is why it is important for those who are working in the construction industry to think of this as they build and try to build energy efficient buildings. In order to build energy efficient buildings, first of all they must have adequate information, including the building's energy balance. There are many factors that affect the amount of energy consumption in buildings. Some examples of factors are where the building is located, what environment it is placed in and how it is used. In order to reduce a building's energy use both engineering, installation and behavioral considerations has to be taken. What action you need to use depends largely on the building itself. The same measures in two different buildings can produce different results. This report is about energy efficiency of apartment buildings located in Lagersberg area in Eskilstuna. The area was built during the Million Programme 1965-1975. It will be renovated now and certain steps will be taken to make the area energy-efficient. Tis particular part is called ETAPP 1 and consists of five houses. One of them is an experiment house and has been renovated 2010th. The purpose of this work is to ascertain the actual energy consumption in buildings and explore opportunities for improved energy efficiency of an existing building. The goal is to provide a basis for proposals on energy efficiency opportunities in the building. Hopefully the proposal is so good that it can be used in subsequent redevelopment. The questions that have been studying in this report are: • How do you define energy consumption in buildings? • How to evaluate energy use in buildings and the measures required for energy conservation? • How will an energy monitoring / control program for these measures be made?
