Abstract [en]

The starting point for this project has been to work with acoustics. How can architects, through the use of architecture, reduce the noise level in schools? Progressively larger groups of children, as well as new working methods, have led to increased mobility and more conversations in the classroom. This has in turn increased the general noise level.

 

Previously, the school had a different form of teaching, where the teacher stood at the front of the classroom and lectured, while students sat quietly at their desks. Today, the focus is on student’s group work and discussions with each other. This automatically leads to higher noise levels, even if the students are only talking to each other. Preschool and school environments are often noisy, and this is detrimental both for learning, and for the health of teachers and students.

 

But acoustics turned out not to be the only important aspect in the design of a school. Taking this into consideration, I decided to focus my attention on four different parameters in the project; acoustics, lighting, room linking and outdoor education.

Ingången i projektet har varit att arbeta med akustik. På vilket sätt kan vi arkitekter genom arkitekturen sänka ljudnivån i skolan? Allt större barngrupper och nya arbetssätt har medfört ökad rörlighet och mer samtal i klassrummet. Detta har i sin tur höjt den allmänna ljudnivån.

Tidigare hade skolan en annan form av undervisning där läraren stod längst fram i klassrummet och undervisade medan eleverna satt tysta vid sina bänkar. Idag ligger fokus på att eleverna arbetar i grupper och diskuterar med varandra. Detta leder automatiskt till högre ljudnivå, även om eleverna bara pratar med varandra. Förskole- och skolmiljöer är ofta bullriga. Detta är till nackdel både för inlärning och för hälsan hos lärarna och eleverna.

 

Men akustik visade sig inte vara det enda som var viktigt i utformningen av en skola därför valde jag att fokusera på 4 olika parametrar i projektet: akustik, ljus, rumssamband och utomhuspedagogik.
