Abstract [en]

Industrialization in the construction industry today aims to find efficient solutions that primarily support production. One of the reasons why the need for effective solutions within the bridge construction industry is recently growing is that the life-span of many bridges is about to end. Many of the bridges are located in urban areas, which require fast and smooth bridge replacement. This thesis has studied how the design work of a bridge concept, whose basic aim was to increase efficiency mainly in production, can be efficient.

The aim of the thesis was to investigate how a parametric Building Information Model, a verification sheet and their integration can streamline the design work for NCC Montagebro. The focus of the thesis was to achieve an integration between the model and verification sheet and therefore only the longitudinal beams have been studied in detail.

The tools used to achieve efficiency are a modeling program, Tekla Structures and also a verification sheet created in Mathcad. The aim with the integration and verification was that the information in greatest possible extent would be handled automatically.

Factors that have proven to affect the streamlining are better cooperation and coordination between the actors involved. The individual actors possess different skills and represent different interests. The client will work to create conditions and incentives for a more open market with more actors.  Meanwhile, the contractor's role will be to drive the implementation

of industrialized construction. Collaboration between clients, contractors and consultants is required to discuss the key elements that are important to industrialized construction. As a result the actors decide upon the design program, norms and rules.

The conclusion from this thesis is that the efficiency of the design work is done mainly because of time savings in model creation. When quantities of the model can be verified in a simple and fast way, you can develop and secure a basis for the calculation phase and final drawings which can be used in the construction phase. The use of the model and verification sheet may lead to accelerated cost proposals for internal comparison with other similar options. By integrating the model and the verification sheet the design work can become more efficient; time and money can be saved increasing the revenue of the bridge construction industry.
