Abstract [en]

Nowadays, it is a fact that a large amount of bridges are close to their expiration dates. For this reason, many studies have researched into the necessity of special maintenance and repairing procedures for this kind of bridges, or even about the convenience of the decommission of certain bridges and the subsequent substitution by new construction bridges.

This Master Thesis deals with the Life Cycle Cost Analyses for two road bridges which are part of a proposal to substitute an old existing one in the road 841. This route is located in the north of Stockholm and connects the municipal districts of Kallhäll and Kungsängen. In order to choose the suitable general geometry and make the adequate preliminary design for both alternatives the site conditions of the project area will be defined based on information from

Swedish institutes and other projects nearby. Then, different bridge construction method will be discussed, proposing for each alternative.

The Comparative LCC Analyses between both bridges will serve to know the influence of different bridge layouts, from the typology of it to the general geometry or the type of deck. The study will also show the influence of different factors relevant in the calculations such as the interest rate of the life span of the structure considered.
