Detecting read-only objects in the heap of a Java Virtual Machine

This thesis describes a scheme to detect which parts of the Java heap contain data that is not written to after initialization. This information can be used in several ways, for example to improve garbage collector performance or to improve application performance in non uniform memory models. Although no implementation uses this mutability data yet there are several openings for further work on this topic. Performance impact measurements for some benchmarks are provided as well as some figures describing the memory profiles of these benchmarks.

Att hitta objekt som inte ändras i en Java Virtual Machine

Det här examensarbetet beskriver en metod för att avgöra vilka delar av Java heap-minnet som innehåller data som inte skrivs till efter initiering. Denna typ av information kan sedan användas på flera olika sätt, till exempel för att förbättra prestanda hos skräpsamlare eller för att förbättra applikationsprestanda i minnesmodeller med icke-enhetlig arkitektur. Det finns för närvarande ingen implementation som använder sig av denna information och detta lämnar utrymme för vidare forskning inom detta område. Mätningar av effekten på prestanda för två stycken mätprogram presenteras tillsammans med mätdata som beskriver minnesprofilerna för dessa mätprogram.
