Choice of glass façade for a house (English)
Abstract [en]

Research from recent years has shown that sun light plays a bigger role in human biological functions and well-being than previously assumed. People also spend most of their time indoors. This increases the demands on daylight levels in buildings. Buildings houses with large windows has always been attractive but brings issues, such as poor insulation and brittle failure which has led to that building houses with lots of windows is preferably avoided. In recent years, however, glass technology has made great progress and there are many different combinations of glasses to choose from which makes it possible to build whatever you want without letting obstacles stop you. This article examines choices of glass and Cross-bar for a glass facade and how to meet the requirements of glass facades. An important requirement for the glass facade is that it will function as a part of the building envelope. The different requirements for a glass facade as an exterior wall, that this article will high light, are insulation abilities and resistance. The problem with a glass facade is the material itself, glass. How to build a glass facade that will meet the same requirements and standards as a conventional curtain wall faces. One must also not forget the aesthetic requirements that the client has on the facade, the point with a glass facade is after all the feeling of having an open space between the indoor and outdoor environment. The different glass types that can be produced by different treatments are considered, and their properties have been investigated. Comparisons between U-values have been done by analysis of gap sizes and the mediums in the gaps. The glass façades U-value was calculated at 0.53 W/m2K with respect to thermal bridges. Aluminum module design and characteristics that depend on given situations have been discussed. The choices of glass and Cross-bar for glass facade were analyzed in their respective environments. There are many combinations you have to choose from but in this project were a glass facade with insulated panes with argon gas in the gaps chosen. The module profiles are of aluminum which is relatively easy to manufacture compared to other alternative materials while they are cheaper. In conclusion, someone should be able to choose glass and profile modules for a glass façade in an efficient manner taking into account the client's wishes, manufacturer restrictions and / or any building codes.
