Varvsbyggnad på Beckholmen

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This project maps out a suggestion for a new shipyard building on Beckholmen, an industrial island south of Djurgården in Stockholm. Due to its long history as a wharf area, the island was heavily polluted until 2012, when an extensive sanitation process was concluded. It was decided that the marine industry should remain on the island, since there are already three dry docks in place, and since there is no other wharf within a reasonable area of Stockholm, where both the archipelago fleet, including its winter ships, and the largest Ro/Ro vessels can be repared. A future shipyard on Beckholmen ought not only to be able to serve the aforementioned ships, but, being the only one of its kind in the Stockholm area, its ability to develop further ought to be investigated. Such a project would not be economically viable unless the capacity of the wharf is extended beyond its current abilities.
