Abstract [en]

Due to recent catastrophic events such as the Japan disaster in 2011 and the volcanic eruption of

Eyjafjallajökull, attention has been directed to global supply chains and the risks that they are subject to;  risks  that  need  to  be  managed.  Trends  in  business  models  such  as  lean  management, globalization, and outsourcing have caused supply chain networks to become more complex and sensitive  to  disruptions;  leading  several  researchers  to  attempt  to  establish  metamodels  and taxonomies of terminology in the field, and frameworks for risk management. Furthermore, the need to provide supply chain risk management practitioners with a properly developed Decision Support System (DSS) has been suggested. However, the field of supply chain risk management is still dispersed, lacking a common nomenclature and a solid foundation for a future DSS to be built on.

This thesis aims to deliver just that. Previous proposals in the bibliography of the subject have been reviewed in order to find a common core of definition of supply chain actors, processes, and risks, which have been extended to cover the elements relevant for supply chain risk management. This has resulted in a taxonomy containing supply chain actors and their connections, standard processes, functions, and flows, as well as a list of risks that supply chains of today are subject to. The developed taxonomy has then been adapted to modeling through an object-oriented approach; thus delivering the first step of the development of a future DSS for supply chain deciders to utilize in their supply chain risk management efforts.
