Abstract [en]

Operational data of Scania trucks were used in order to estimate a wearfunction for disc brakes. This was done in order to compare wear fortrucks having a retarder mounted with trucks that do not have a retarder.

The implementation followed the Knowledge Discovery in Databasesprocess with Support Vector Regression and standard Matlab regressin the Data Mining step. It was found that the retarder relieves theworkload more for trucks with lower Technical Total Weights and thatthe braking behaviour plays a role on how much the retarder can relievethe workload of the disc brakes.

It was also found that Support Vector Regression tends to favour longlived data while standard Matlab regress balance between long lived andshort lived data. This clearly showed that depending on which methodis used to implement regression analysis plays a big role on the outcome.
