How can a process that has formed the site inform the architecture?: So how can we design for a landscape that have been sculptured/shapet by a process, in time, mass and pressure. As the mountains in Abisko where the inland ice shape them to a certain degree.

Abstract [en]

The impact that the ice made in the land is apparent in many areas in how the landscape is shaped, especially in the region of mass (mountains).

I use ice and snow to form a research building for this subject, which have a focuses on eco tourism and students studies that comes to Abisko.

The materiality and process in the research building relate to the geology it stands in, by the ice that shapes it.

And the research that goes on there by the Swedish Polar Research Station in the

polar ice caps, snow depth, Glaciers and vegetation

it has been going on since 1903’s when the first research station was built.

Which had a typical saddle roof house out of wood where it had gravel and soil pressed up on the outer walls to the roof level.
