Portal dosimetry for the GEMINI detector

Abstract [en]

Quality assurance is an important part of radiation therapy ensuring the agreement between the dose delivered to the patient and the prescribed dose. Detectors placed below the patient called electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) detect photon intensity which can be converted to dose information and used for dose reconstruction.

This thesis presents a review of current algorithms in the eld of portal dosimetry using EPIDs as well as a prototype program for dose calculation valid for the GEMiniTM detector developed by C-RAD Imaging AB. Methods for dose evaluation are presented and three methods are implemented in the program. The dose calculation algorithm was constructed as an additional feature to the by C-RAD already developed program for GEMiniTM image processing, GEMManager.

The dose calculation program was constructed with a dark eld correction, a dose calibration and deconvolution with an in-house developed kernel. C# was used as programming language and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express as integrated development environment. Both the programming approach and demonstrations of the program environment are presented in the Results chapter. The program is a rst prototype and further development is needed prior to any commercialization.
