Abstract [en]

Modern fuel systems (Common Rail/XPI) on diesel engines store the fuel under a high pressure right before injection into the combustion chamber. Fuel pipes in common rail systems have been observed to be excited to resonance during running conditions of the engine (pressure pulsations as exciting mechanism). This thesis have had the focus on characterizing and modeling the loading of these pipes in form of pressure pulsations in the stored fuel as a prerequisite for future simulations. The thesis have included a part of measurements using strain gauges directly applied to the boundary of the pipes, analytical modeling of the pressure pulsations and a concluding comparison/validation part where the measurements and the model results are compared.

Abstract [sv]

Nutida diesel motorer använder sig av bränslesystem (Common Rail/XPI) där bränslet lagras under högt tryck. Detta för att stunden senare sprutas in i motorns förbränningskammare (cylinder). Bränslerör i common rail system har uppmärksammats då de har exciterats till resonans under motorns driftsfall (tryckpulsationer som exciterande mekanism). Detta examensarbete har inriktats på att karaktärisera och modellera lasten som verkar på dessa rör, detta i form av pulsationer i den trycksatta bränslemängden. Den framtagna lasten kommer att användas som indata till framtida simuleringar av bränslerör. Arbetet har omfattat mätningar med hjälp av töjningsgivare limmade på bränslerören, analytisk modellering av tryckpulsationerna och en jämförande/validerande del där modell och mätningar har ställts mot varandra.
