Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how it is possible to increase spectral efficiency in a multi-frequency network (MFN), by comparing simulations in an interference-limited network. By comparing time frequency slicing (TFS) with non-TFS in both a standard MFN and a network with directional diversity, it is possible to see the theoretical gain in spectral efficiency.

Another technique that was studied was polarization of transmitters. By transmitting at different polarizations, it was possible to reduce interference. The model was designed and simulated in MATLAB. With TFS in a network with directional diversity, it was possible to gain approximately 25% over a standard MFN. Polarization gave a further gain of about 11%. In total, an increase of 42% could be attained.
