Strategy and business intelligence in Swedish printing industry (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This Master thesis is conducted on behalf of Branschkoll, a company founded in 2010 thatprovides business intelligence for the printing industry. The purpose of the study was to identify and analyze how companies in the Swedish printing industry are working with strategy and business intelligence. This was done in order to gain a deeper understanding of why the industry looks the way it does today. The study has its foundation in a number of industry reports from different decades that all advise companies in the printing industry to work thoroughly with their strategy.

The investigation of how companies in the Swedish printing industry are working with strategy was done through in-depth interviews with ten executives at companies of varying sizes in terms of number of employees as well as through a survey. A few persons with insights into the printing industry and/or with great knowledge of strategic work were also interviewed.

The results of this study show that few companies within the printing industry has a clear strategy today. Many executives in the study believe that they do not conduct enough strategic work due to time contraints, lack of resources and lack of expertise within the company. Strategic work is often prioritized down to the benefit of the everyday, operational work.
