    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to survey the incline and height of crash barriers and how these two factors affect traffic security. The study also serves the purpose of bringing up problems in traffic security due to lack of space under crash barriers for installation of slide guards for motorcyclists. Research in the databases of the Swedish Transportation Administration (Trafikverket), Road and Transport Institute (VTI), the Associations of Swedish Motor Cyclists (föreningen Sveriges MotorCyklister), and Swedish Bridge and Crash Barrier Association (Sveriges Bro- och Vägräckesförening) has shown corresponding results with the Swedish standard SS EN-1317. The standard in use today, SS EN-1317, affects traffic security negatively due to the height of assemblage of the carrying beam in crash barriers being 450 millimeters. At the time of writing research is being conducted regarding slide guards on four different roads in Sweden with one located in Åkersberga, Stockholm.

    Abstract [en]

    JVAB is a contractor with a focus on water utility construction. The company has carried out numerousextensions of the municipal water network to areas undergoing transitional change from secondaryto primary residence. These projects have proved difficult to calculate in terms of actual time andresource usage.The objective was to identify the factors that influence the progress of conventional water systemconstruction in these areas and to create the basis for future decision making. This resulted in threeissues: "What is the final cost of progress in these areas?", "What factors affect progress in theseareas?" And "Why do the calculated resources differ from real ones in these areas?".The final cost of progress was reconstructed from six completed projects to answer the first question.The following questions were examined with a semi structured interviewing technique and the selectionof respondents was strategical.The cost of progress based on the reconstructed calculation was 2 400-3 600 kr / mledning and 4 800-9000 kr / mschakt. Road network, property owners and varied topography were identified as impactingfactors of the progress. Time and experience aspects were highlighted as a source of discrepanciesbetween contract amount and the actual outcome.To involve different roles before contract writing and focus on feedback after project completion aretwo proposals designed to reduce discrepancies. Increasing the use of resources is an option if utilizationrates are maintained or raised.

    Replacing an already functioning but old process can be time consuming and unprofitable. This has been demonstrated especially in the construction industry, where digitization is progressing slowly. This study examines what aspects of the traditional process of quantity takeoff as well as calculation process at the company BTH Bygg AB will be affected when changing to a process based on modeling and BIM, Building Information Modeling. The purpose of the study is to compare the traditional quantity takeoff and calculation with the aid of Bluebeam and MAP against a process that is carried out with modeling in the software ArchiCAD with a connection to Vico Office for quantity takeoff and calculation. The difference from the traditional process will be to move from 2D manual quantity takeoff to using 3D models, BIM models, and performing automatic calculations via Vico Office. The study is a qualitative study with elements of a quantitative survey where the focus on getting the most work-efficient and profitable solution for BTH Bygg. Comparisons between two different construction projects has been made. The projects comprises similar size and conditions as well as limited to calculations of floors, interior walls and ceilings. The basis for the study has been personal interviews with people from the calculation section at BTH Bygg to gather knowledge about their process for quantity takeoff and calculation. Interviews with employees of the companies for the software Bluebeam, ArchiCAD and Vico Office have also been carried out to obtain an objective picture of all the software. The conclusion is that implementing information-rich BIM models in the quantity takeoff and calculation has proved to be profitable when it comes to quality through reduced manual work when connecting between software. In addition, there are great opportunities for saving time in other stages by working in an integrated process where all parts of the con- struction process are linked to each other.

    Bakgrund

    :

    Det finns i dagsläget brister i kommunikationen och informationshanteringen i

    byggprocessen. Detta har resulterat i att byggbranschen förlorar miljardtals kronor varje år.

    Projektet BSAB 2.0 startades i början av 2015 med syfte att utarbeta ett nytt klassifikationssystem, nu

    kallat CoClass.

    Syfte:

    Syftet med rapporten är att undersöka om implementering av CoClass inom kalkylarbetet är av

    fördel för JM Entreprenad samt hur möjligheterna ser ut med implementering av CoClass i deras

    BIM-manual.

    Metod:

    Examensarbetet har baserats på en kvalitativ metod med litteraturstudier och intervjuer. För

    att kunna undersöka om CoClass kan införas i JM Entreprenads kalkylarbete så beskrevs en kalkyl

    med CoClass-koder. En jämförelse gjordes sedan mellan den typiska kalkylen som var utförd med

    AMA-koder och kalkylen utförd med CoClass.

    Slutsatser:

    Att implementera CoClass i kalkylarbete anses vara lönsamt för JM Entreprenad inom en

    snar framtid. Med det sagt så är CoClass fortfarande under utveckling och få företag har redan börjat

    använda det. Om JM Entreprenad inför CoClass som klassifikationssystem i dagsläget kommer

    troligtvis fördelarna med CoClass inte att utnyttjas till fullo och det skulle resultera i mer arbete.

    Abstract [en]

    This article demonstrates that small developers can outcompete larger developers in terms of cost efficiency when the physical scale of a building project is not to large and that this efficiency can be achieved through a market of specialized subcontractors. In Sweden, small developers have trouble obtaining financing, acquiring land from municipalities and obtaining approval for land use plans. If attention is focused on facilitating market entry for small developers, markets could become more cost efficient. An exploratory case study of two developers, based on visits to two worksites to obtain information on construction processes, documentation, construction costs and the type of problems that arise during construction, is presented. One of the two developers was small, while the other was one of the four largest developers in Sweden and had international operations. Although housing production costs have received a considerable amount of attention, to the best of the author's knowledge, no studies on the competitiveness of small versus large developers have been conducted in Sweden or elsewhere.

    Abstract [en]

    Road safety for cyclists during winter is dependent on good friction, good accessibility and well-planned cycling infrastructure. In order for cycling to happen throughout the year, it is important to offer cyclists safe roads even during winter. Through different operating methods, the cycleways can be made available even at low temperature and snowfall. In this study three different methods for snow clearance and skid control have been studied.

    Stockholm City uses the method of power broom and brine for de-icing on selected cycleways with high priority since the winter of 2013/2014. Other cycleways are cleared from snow through ploughing and skid control is done by gritting. Snow melting systems are installed in central parts of the city where heated ground gives the pedestrians a snow-free surface.

    The cycleways across Slussen have a high frequency of people travelling by bicycle because it ties cycleways from different parts and the city together. Stockholm City wants to promote bicycle travelling in the area that currently is undergoing rebuilding. In the report, the design of the new cycleways has been reviewed and analyzed to identify risk areas in winter. The analysis is based on previous measurements, surveys and reports. Risk areas are identified based on potential risk of accidents for cyclists, accessibility and operational efficiency. Proposals for which of the operating methods that are most appropriate have been given for each area.

    The analysis shows that the power broom-method is a good option. In areas where there are many pedestrians along with cyclists, it is advisable to install a snow melting system. Gritting the cycleway is not a good option. The analysis also shows that several areas will be problematic for cyclists in the winter.

    Abstract [en]

    One of the most important parameters in the grouting of rock fractures is the applied pressure. This produces the driving force on the Bingham group material that causes it to penetrate the fracture. However, deciding the optimum pumping pressure is challenging. Using too high a pressure not only causes the grout to spread beyond the desired area, but, if it exceeds the minimum in situ stress in the rock mass, may also cause jacking of the fractures. This may lead to uncontrolled uplift. With a lower grout pressure, this "ultimate state" (jacking) can be avoided, although the pressurized grout still may induce smaller elastic deformations during pumping, and these may become irreversible when the grout has hardened. In previous studies, various theoretical approaches to distinguish the onset of these elastic and non-elastic deformations have been described and evaluated. However, the merits and disadvantages of theoretical approaches in general have been questionable. In the current study, the basic mechanism of elastic jacking is described, and its negative consequences are analyzed and quantified. These are the prolongation of grouting time, and the reduction in sealing efficiency. The role of an increased grouting pressure is evaluated by considering its positive effect in improving the penetrability and comparing this with the potential negative consequences. Case studies from two projects (the THX and Citybanan projects) are studied to examine the efficiency of the work that was carried out on site. The results indicate a high-applied pressure can have negative effect on the grouting procedure, and that this effect is significant in fractures situated in weak rock at shallow depth. It is concluded that unwanted fracture deformations and their negative consequences can be eliminated by defining appropriate stop criteria in advance of grouting, and confirming their suitability during pumping by the use of theoretical approach presented here. In general, this will allow the use of lower pump pressure and allow better control of the grout spread.

    Abstract [en]

    The importance of embodied energy and embodied greenhouse gas emissions (EEG) from buildings is gaining increased interest within building sector initiatives and on a regulatory level. In spite of recent harmonisation efforts, reported results of EEG from building case studies display large variations in numerical results due to variations in the chosen indicators, data sources and both temporal and physical boundaries. The aim of this paper is to add value to existing EEG research knowledge by systematically explaining and analysing the methodological implications of the quantitative results obtained, thus providing a framework for reinterpretation and more effective comparison. The collection of over 80 international case studies developed within the International Energy Agency's EBC Annex 57 research programme is used as the quantitative foundation to present a comprehensive analysis of the multiple interacting methodological parameters. The analysis of methodological parameters is structured by the stepwise methodological choices made in the building EEG assessment practice. Each of six assessment process steps involves one or more methodological choices relevant to the EEG results, and the combination potentials between these many parameters signifies a multitude of ways in which the outcome of EEG studies are affected.

    Abstract [en]

    The ambition for a more digitalized and effective line of business is large for building companies. It is of great importance, to the companies in the building sector, that the adaption of new tools and methods of working happen to secure their place in a modern and competitive line of business. BIM-building process is the tool the companies need to reach their ambitions. 

    One of Veidekke´s goals is to use BIM throughout the entirety of their projects. This work has with cooperation with Veidekke Sverige clarified what obstacles there are for the implementation of BIM in the building production an also to give propositions for actions to fix these obstacles. The study has mainly been done through half controlled interviews with key individuals and thru available literature studies. 

    The result of the study has shown that there are three main obstacles that have slowed the implementation of BIM in the building process. These obstacles are as follows: the level of detail of the BIM model, technical difficulties associated with software and hardware, and the human aspect. 

    The solutions to these obstacles have been brought forward regarding the position of Veidekke Sverige, in the line of business of building, regarding BIM, and are made up of our own speculations from past experiences and knowledge gathered though the course of the education.

    Abstract [en]

    My graduate work is an evaluation of exchanging the existing windows for terrace houses on Skeppsvägen in Bålsta. Property owner is Håbohus AB and the assigner is written for Skanska Sweden AB. I’ve been working in Bålsta were Skanska Direct AB has their own office, Skanska also have the turnkey contract on the renovation job on Skeppsvägen. The intention of the work is to clearly report any power and energy savings when replacing existing windows and patio doors.

    Investigation of windows and patio doors has been made visually, with an infrared camera and a moisture meter. When the visual examination was made I recorded color release. The photograph of infrared camera shows that the windows and patio doors seals badly between sash and frame. Moisture content meter gave a maximum response of 14 % which is remarkable.

    Power and energy calculations have been done to compare the existing values with the new values after a possible replacement. The calculations shows that Håbohus can reduce their energy consumption by 15400-16707 kWh/year depending on which windows and patio doors they want to mount. They would also reduce the power requirement about 16,5 to 18,4 %.

    Abstract [en]

    Following urbanization and higher sustainability goals, large and complex

    infrastructure construction projects are becoming more common. New collaborative

    contracting models are increasingly used to tackle this complexity and uncertainty. In

    a public context, collaborative contracting may be seen as an international trend in

    public policy, which is implemented in projects by public clients world-wide. Since a

    few years, the Swedish Transport Administration recommends that a two-stage Early

    Contractor Involvement should be used for very large and complex projects. This

    paper analyses the implementation of this model in two sub-projects in a large

    Swedish infrastructure project based on policy implementation literature. Altogether

    24 interviews were performed in two rounds, capturing both early expectations and

    experiences gained after the contracts had been signed. Participants expressed

    positive attitudes to the new collaborative project practices. However, the

    implementation process was characterized by ambiguity and many issues about

    staffing, collaboration processes, target cost estimations, responsibilities and design

    output were left to the projects to resolve. The study shows how conflicting policies

    and high project-level autonomy combine to counteract organizational learning and

    homogenization of practices in this field.

    Abstract [en]

    Life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) has recognized potential for rationalizing bridge procurement, but its use in this context is far from systematic and the integration of LCCA findings in decisions is often far from robust. Furthermore, although most bridge management systems (BMSs) include databases of relevant information, agencies do not use them effectively to improve future bridge investment decisions. This paper introduces a comprehensive approach for agencies to exploit their BMS to procure the most cost-efficient bridge design through fair design-build (D-B) tendering processes. The approach incorporates use of a novel LCCA technique, LCC Added-Value Analysis, that can be conveniently integrated with public agencies’ established procurement procedures and maintains contractors’ freedoms in D-B processes. The proposed approach allows bridge procurers to establish monetary LCC-efficient benchmarks and embed them in tender documents as core specifications. Hence the lowest LCC bid can be employed as the contract award criterion, rather the lowest bid in initial investment terms. The Swedish Transport Administration has recently procured several bridges using the approach, thereby gaining considerable cost savings. A presented case-study provides insights into various aspects of bridges’ LCC and illustrates analytical steps that other agencies could apply in bridge procurement.

    Climate impact and energy consumption are one of the biggest environmental problems around the world today. Since the start of the industrial revolution, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions has increased exponentially over the years. These emissions created imbalances in the climate, not least because of residues and harmful substances used in the construction industry. The purpose of this study is to find out which methods have the greatest impact on the environment, and then, if possible, make suggestions on how it can be improved. The issue we have researched in this study has been; "what method of building a road is most harmful to the environment?”. The main method of this work has been a case study in which a survey of a project has been conducted. A number of climate calculations with different road material properties were made which were then compared to each other. The conclusion we were able to make is that cold-asphalt releases much less carbon dioxide than normal asphalt, but more research is needed to draw a more accurate and reliable conclusion.

    In a report financed by Smart Built Environment it was stated that there are possibilities to improve quality and reduce cost in the finished product through digital solutions in the construction industry. One area where digitization has got a high impact is in the use of digital tools on the construction site (Bygg 4.0, u.å.). Digital tools are defined as software and applications suited for the construction industry. The purpose of this thesis was to map out the digital tools used in Skanska's production and to compare the use of digital tools within the business areas infrastructure and commercial building. The study focuses on how the use of digital tools is encouraged through strategies and objectives in Skanska's organization. The method for collecting material was a literature study of theory, a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews. The survey focused on the use of digital tools and the interviews on Skanska's employees perception on Skanska's work with digitization. The results of the study show differences in the extent that the digital tools are used within the business areas. The results of the quantitative study show that the business area commercial building uses the digital tools to a greater extent. The reason for this is that the business area commercial building works proactively through recommendations such as Basnivå Hus, Projekt i världsklass and Smarta projekt. The business area commercial building also has a role called digital leader in every project, who are supported by a digital coach in every region. The business area infrastructure does not have an equally established foundation, since only Projekt i världsklass is the starting point for digital work within the business area. There are also no digital leaders in projects within the business area. This role arises organically through committed individuals with good knowledge of digital tools. The business area commercial building has a well-established system for working with digital tools, which means that the business area has come further than the business area infrastructure.

    With the shortage of vacant accommodation in the country, the need to develop new housing has increased significantly. To accomplish this in the most effective manner, the entire building process needs to be improved. The communication between the developer and the contractor is one such major aspect that may lead to furthering time and cost efficiency. During the construction process, several parties are involved from the early planning to the management of the development. All involved parties work towards a common goal where the cooperation between them could last several years. The key to a success is thorough and clear communication as well as good cooperation between the parties throughout the entire building process.

    This report is made in cooperation with Riksbyggen. The aim is to streamline future projects by examining the communication and cooperation methods used three previous construction projects. The purpose of this study is to examine the shortcomings in both the communication and cooperation between developer and contractor, and to identify good practices employed to achieve good communication and cooperation, as well as take constructive action to improve future projects.

    The study has a qualitative design; and empirical data collection consists mainly of semi-structured interviews. Through interviews with key figures from the three investigated construction projects, an overall idea of the cooperation and communication between developer and entrepreneur has been obtained. The results show that when the developer worked alongside the contractor during the early construction phases, it added value to the project. Time constraints and organizational changes in the projects had a negative impact on cooperation and communication between the parties. Every construction project is unique, it is therefore profitable for the overall value of the project to customise the communication and cooperation forms according to the projects nature. The thesis also highlights the value of experience feedback and improvement suggestions for Riksbyggen experience systems.

    Abstract [en]

    The rapid development of IT technology has in the past decades created opportunities for faster and more efficient processes, and new working methods in the building industry. This paper presents the results of a longitudinal survey-based study (the "IT barometer") of IT use in the Swedish building industry, conducted at several intervals over the period 1998-2011. The results show a rapid increase in general IT use, and in the use of sector-specific tools. Improving communication and information sharing is a strong driving force for taking IT into use, for instance technologies such as EDM and EDI, although the adoption of the more complex applications (ie BIM) is slower. Interestingly "demands from employees" has over the years become a very important reason for companies to increase their IT use. Leading areas for planned IT investments include document handling and mobile equipment, with BIM technology rather low on the list.

    In 2002, a directive from EU stated that the countries should start keeping better track of how buildings consume energy. From this directive a law was introduced that implied that energy declarations now were to be established. The main purpose of energy declarations was for them to contribute to efficient energy use and a healthy indoor environment. This was to be achieved by giving a general view of the building’s energy status, as well as basis for investments in making the building more energy efficient. This master’s dissertation examines if energy declarations fulfill their purpose of contributing to an efficient energy use. After questioning of real estate company’s personnel and examining energy declarations, they proved to be considered adequate in showing a building’s general energy consumption. However, the action proposals are often considered too simplistic. Instead, many companies base their actions in order to make the building more efficient on their own personnel, their thorough investigation and detailed analysis of a building’s energy consumption. This detailed analysis gives a clearer picture of where energy can be saved and in what way actions should be made in order to be most efficient. The purpose of energy declarations is therefore only partially fulfilled.

    The construction industry is facing a reality where the dependency on fossil fuels needs to cease and be replaced by options that are more climate friendly. One such option is the electrification that has not made a breakthrough in the construction industry yet and therefore needs to be examined. In this thesis an investigation is made by two different systems of wheel loaders and trucks. One system that conducts machines run by electricity and another one where the system is powered by diesel. The investigation is based on goal formulation which serves as the basis for answering these questions. The machines were examined in such as to obtain results that illustrate which system of machines that are profitable with regards to time, energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and total costs. This thesis has also as an intent to identify any advantages and disadvantages of each transport method. This is done in order to lend structure to any further research conducted in the future. To be able to compare and examine the properties of the machines, these machines were applied to a tunneling project. The project that was received was the metro station Hagalunds industriområde. The planned expansion of the subway will lead to a new metro line between Arenastaden and Odenplan, where Hagalunds industriområde will become an intermediate station. In order to truly optimize our efforts and carry out the calculations, the focus was placed on a partial stretch of 1 000 meters with respect to the main tunnel and working tunnel. The result obtained shows that the electric wheel loader leads to less time, carbon dioxide emissions and better energy efficiency than the diesel-powered wheel loader. On the other hand, the disadvantage is that the purchase cost of the electric wheel loader leads to greater total costs. These investments may be necessary to break the dependence on fossil fuels. When comparing the trucks, the result showed that the electric truck is a better alternative from an environmental perspective and total costs. While the diesel-powered truck saves on both time and energy. The reason why the total cost of the diesel-powered truck differs greatly from the electricpowered truck is the rental costs. If the diesel-powered truck was instead purchased, the total cost difference could be reduced.

    A problem with the construction line of business versus the environment is that there are not that much knowledge and rules around the carbon dioxide emissions that several construction projects releases. A lot of companies that we contacted didn´t have the knowledge about the carbon dioxide that releases from the construction projects that they´ve built. This is understandable because it is a very difficult calculation to do, it requires very advanced tools and knowledge around the subject to make detailed calculations. With this master thesis, we want to compare prefabricated buildings with different materials from an environmental perspective with a focus on the carbon dioxide. The different materials we are comparing are steel and tree.

     

    The purpose with this master thesis is to create a basis for Riki AB so that they will have a better sight on the environmental impact from their steel prefabrications which is shipped from China and this will be done with a comparison between a Swedish traditional half prefabricated apartment building.

     

    The first step for the thesis has been a literature study and interviews about the subject. The obtained literature study consists of rapports, relatable thesis, analysis and digital internet sources. The interviews were implemented with companies which were knowledgeable of prefabrication and materials, this was done to get a deeper understanding of the materials effects of the environment.

     

    The result of this examination results that the prefabricated apartment buildings made of steel from China has a larger carbon dioxide emission compared to the Swedish half prefabricated apartment buildings made of tree.

    Energy consumption in the housing sector is considered to be very high today and in order to achieve the political EU objectives, construction engineering measures must be carried out. Mainly, consumption is high to within multi-family houses built in the 60's and 70's. These properties will need a renovation to meet today's energy criteria. This work is put together through literary studies, interviews and calculations. The purpose of the work is to understand the basics of the general energy consumption problems and how to improve the area by reducing the use of energy consumption in an economically sustainable manner. Four primary areas will be discussed here which are ventilation, heating, hot water and electricity. The work will strive for a result that clearly describes the pros and cons of various jobs in terms of energy saving and economical savings. A variety of techniques have been investigated for each main area. In heat, additional insulation and window measures were investigated where additional insulation proved to be a profitable energy-saving measure. For the window measures, there were three action options where switching of windows showed the best energy-saving measure and the more profitable of the three options. For ventilation, a change to FTX system was investigated, which proved not to be a profitable measure as it was very expensive. However, it gave a very high energy-saving value which is what should be lifted. The technology investigated for hot water was individual measurement and charging. This measure proved not to be profitable since profits in terms of less energy consumption accrue to the housing, but with the low cost of work and the incentive for lower energy consumption, this is something to be recommended.

    Today, one of the more complicated construction projects in Sweden is in full swing, namely the rebuilding of Slussen in Stockholm. The reasons for this are, among other things, that the former Slussen is in such a bad condition, and that the Mälaren regulation needs to be changed to allow for increased drawing of water. Located in the middle of the city and with about 450,000 people passing this meeting place daily, the parties involved to the reconstruction have limited conditions.Skanska is one of the many companies involved in enabling the rebuilding of Nya Slussen and the purpose of this work is to investigate how to streamline the logistics flow on one of Skanska's construction projects, SN 81 Art Construction Land. The aim of the study has been to locate the different parameters that adversely affect the logistics flow. The primary objective has since been to present action proposals that will increase value creation at the workplace and reduce / eliminate the waste items associated with the building.The method chosen for this study has been a combination of literature studies, survey and interviews. The survey was only shared with the construction workers on the project and the interviews have only been carried out for officials on the project selected according to experience and position to get a nuanced image of the subject.After this study, the critical parameters that affect the logistics flow negatively have been located. Space, communication and structure. Recommendations have then been worked out to increase value creation time and eliminate / reduce wasting items. The action proposals that were developed became an updated APD plan with storage areas given, external storage space, improved communication, simplified protocol management and, finally a structured worksite.

    Because society’s demand for quality, efficiency at low cost is constantly increasing, companies are increasingly choosing to invest new methods to achieve these points. Those who manage to find ways to improve their processes are often the companies that have the greatest chance of becoming a winning player in the market. BIM is a new method that can reduce the internal costs while increasing communications between different parties. However there is disagreement about what BIM is and its purpose. BIM is a new concept in the construction industry and is defined as a collection of programs with different devices used in the design, production and finally in the management. That includes object oriented models that contains information about the building during the construction process.

    The purpose of this work is to find reasons why BIM is used to a limited extent, and explaining what is required for expanded use in the production. The result is based on interviews with different productions companies but also literatures. The conclusion we reached is that BIM improves the work processes in the industry. Like all new technologies and changes BIM is facing resistance for various reasons. Some of them are maybe because of the lack of knowledge, fear of changes and confusion about the technology.

    This master thesis highlights the risks associated with tunneling in land and mountains. In the report you will find questions raised from the authors. The questions were answered by the company Implenia, which built a tunnel in Vinsta that is linked to the main tunnel in the project E4 Förbifart Stockholm. You can also find answers from the company Zublin regarding the Södermalm tunnel.The purpose of the report was to get an insight into the tunneling process and analyze the risks that appeard in projects E4 Förbifart Stockholm and the Södermalmstunnel.Furthermore, the purpose was also to inform and reach out to others about those risks that may occur in a tunneling process. In addition to this, this work aims to enlightening all projectors about the importance of taking into account the above-mentioned risks at the design stage to prevent shuting down at the construction stage.The questions were answered through interviews with both companies regarding these projects. The projects were interesting to the authors because one company Implenia had to deal with a so-called leakage while making the tunnel. While the company Zublin was working with a so-called mountain race during their tunneling process. More about the handling of these events will be found later in this report.With the help of two compendiums and a doctoral and some webpages, the report was completed.     The regulatory framework for constructional calculations in Sweden did expire In January the 1.st, 2011.Since then the constructional regulatory that originally were composed by Boverket (BKR) has been replaced by new common range (Eurocodes) for the entire European Union. This transition has led to changes in existing rules and standards regarding dimensioning area in Grids and has forced a need for updating to structural Engineers.

    The new calculation system has caused time-consuming studies of the new rules and a proper understanding of all the advice and regulations for the entire profession.

    This study has been carried out in cooperation with the firm "Knut Jönson Ingenjörs AB i Stockholm”, that has been affected by this transition as all other consulting firms. The firm has requested for a calculation method of wall beams according to Eurocodes. The study's focus is therefore to clarify the rules and guidelines regarding the design of wall beams according to the new regulation. The calculation model describes step by step how the dimensioning has been carried out.

    The result indicates the amount of reinforcement, required for s a solid construction. Two different cases has been reviewed regarding reinforcement arrangement .In one case calculates the amount of reinforcement in the joist meanwhile in the other case calculate the reinforcement in the wall.

    To comprehend the process of dimensioning according to those different norms compares theirs calculations. Illustration of both of those calculations according to their norm has been enclosed as appendix 1-2 in the report. An Excel program has been elaborated for dimensioning of wall beams according to EK3. The firm's existing Excel-page according to

    BBK 044 has been applied as basis.

    The difference in those two dimensioning methods has been analyzed with consideration to obtained results of calculation illustration. In the analyze appears the result based on those two cases of reinforcement arrangements. It shows that tension condition in frameworks model is runes by core details and board’s height. The differences in these two calculation methods were fractional. It seems difficult to decide which method provides a more secure result but Ek seems to be more substantial.

    Vid byggandet av en bro är det viktigt att ta hänsyn till kostnaderna under hela dess livslängd, både investeringskostnad samt kostnader för drift och underhåll under livslängden, dessa kan summeras och beräknas till nuvärde genom en livscykelkostnadsanalys. För att ta hänsyn till den miljöpåverkan ett material har från både produktion samt även för drift och underhåll under dess livslängd kan livscykelanalyser göras.

    Syftet med detta examensarbete är att jämföra och fastställa det material som är mest effektivt ur ett kostnads- samt miljöperspektiv för en öppningsbar samverkansbro, Nya Flottsundsbron i Uppsala.

    Materialen som jämförs är konventionellt stål, rostfritt stål och rosttrögt stål där de stora skillnaderna är den högre investeringskostnaden för rostfritt stål och det lägre underhåll som krävs för rostfritt stål och rosttrögt stål under livslängden.

    Programmen som används i detta examensarbete är BridgeLCC och BridgeLCA från ETSI.

    Resultatet från livscykelkostnadsanalyserna visar att det rosttröga stålet har den lägsta livscykelkostnaden följt av rostfritt stål och till sist det konventionella stålet. Resultatet från livscykelanalyserna visar att det rosttröga stålet har lägst personekvivalent utsläpp följt av det konventionella stålet och till sist det rostfria stålet. När emissionerna från livscykelanalyserna räknas om till svenska kronor med metoden Ecovalue12 och slås samman med livscykelkostnaden resulterar det i att det rosttröga stålet är det material som är mest effektivt ur ett kostnads- samt miljöperspektiv, följt av det konventionella stålet och till sist det rostfria stålet, för fallstudien.

     

    Resultat och indata som används i detta examensarbete bör justeras innan de används för att fatta beslut i andra fall då värden har antagits och förenklingar har gjorts i detta examensarbete.

    Abstract [en]

    Despite that steel fiber concrete (SFC) has been used in concrete structures during more than 50 years there is still a lack of practical recommendations. In Sweden, SFC has been used in concrete overlays on bridges during more than 25 years but the usage frequency is fairly low. The current Swedish guidelines for SFC overlays are based solely on empirically determined relationships between the amount of conventional reinforcement for crack control and amount of fibers. In a recent study at the Swedish Cement and Concrete Research Institute, the current recommendations have been critically reviewed. The experience shows that this empirical recommendation works fairly well for traditional concrete mixes and for the most frequently used fibers but there is a need of recommendations that promote the development of better concrete mixes and more efficient fibers. In order to reach this goal, guidelines which are much broader in their application field need to be developed. A novel approach taking the mechanical properties of the actual SFC into account has been proposed. This approach may also be used for concrete with synthetic fibers if their mechanical and long-term properties are proven to be sufficient.

    AMF Fastigheter is shortly for the procurement of a waste contractor for all of its commercial

    properties. The investigation will identify the problem of how the waste is handled in shopping centers

    and inform AMF Fastigheter about how this can be improved. Through study visits and interviews,

    necessary information is gathered to make concrete proposals.

    A comprehensive analysis of the waste generated in the properties describes in the report that large

    waste volumes consist of combustible. The authors provide suggestions on how this can be avoided, as

    well as highlighting fractions that should be recycled to a greater extent. According to the authors,

    there may be problems about the waste contractors' intentions in the properties visited, as recycling is

    not a priority.

    The human factor is considered to be a major problem where it is difficult to achieve long-term

    changes in tenants' behavior regarding waste sorting. Initial explanation of these issues is presented in

    the report and details that the property owner should consider in the procurement of waste contractor.

    Abstract [en]

    The Swedish government has proposed a new load carrying capacity class for the Swedish road

    network. The proposed capacity class is labeled BK4 and will increase the maximum weight for

    road vehicles from the current 64 t to 74 t. The goal for this thesis was to investigate the impact of

    this increase on the capacity calculations and results for bridges, regarding existing bridges’ load

    carrying capacity – specifically with respect to beam bridges with spans long enough to contain an

    entire truck. Coincidental to the increase of maximum weight the vehicle configuration of trucks will

    change.

    A capacity calculation was performed on the beam bridge 15-910-2, with span lengths of 25-28 m.

    The calculation was performed according to Swedish regulations for capacity calculation and with

    an FE-analysis in the software Brigade/Standard.

    In this thesis, specific FEM theory has been used to determine where critical sections occur in the

    FE-model and in some cases output adjustments have been made using load distribution widths.

    This report is meant to be able to be used as a template for how a capacity calculation can be

    performed. The capacity calculation template can be used as calculation support and process

    description for the calculation of other bridges.

    Due to the change in vehicle appearance in the context of the gross weight increase, a FE-analysis

    has been conducted to measure the differences in impact on the structure between today’s vehicle

    appearance for BK1 and the examples of future appearance for BK4. The comparison shows that

    the impact can vary slightly between different vehicle configurations but the impact consistently

    increases significantly with the increase in gross weight.

    The result of the capacity calculation gave a classification rating of A/B = 176/284 kN for bridge

    15-910-2, which is above the requirement for the introduction of BK4 which has a required rating

    of A/B = 120/210 kN.

    The marginal result difference between BK1 and BK4 shows a plausibility that the calculations and

    results for long beam bridges in the ultimate limit state are unaffected by the increase of maximum

    weight for road vehicles. Thus the implication of this should be that a bridge with a BK1 load

    carrying capacity classification score that is higher than the demanded score according to BK4 can

    be upgraded without further control, if the prior capacity classification calculation was done

    according to TDOK 2013:0267. However further studies should be carried out for other beam

    bridges in order to increase this plausibility.

    When performing the load calculation, a so-called k-value is generated, which is then used to

    proportionate the A/B limit values for the given capacity class to reach a final classification rating.

    When capacity calculation was performed using input values for BK1 and BK4 respectively, the

    resulting load carrying capacity showed a two percent difference between BK1 and BK4, but the kvalue

    for the BK4 class was significantly lower than for BK1. A lower k-value means a higher

    utilization rate and hence faster fatigue and higher wear on the bridge. The effect of these

    differences should be investigated further in later studies.

    Byggbranschens digitaliseringsgrad är en av de lägsta i jämförelse med andra branscher i Sverige. Utmaningen att bygga avsevärt fler bostäder runt om i landet framöver är i stort fokus och företagen behöver då implementera effektivare metoder och verktyg för styrning, kommunikation och uppföljning i produktionsstadiet. Digitala verktyg är en lösning för att uppnå denna effektivisering, problemet är att implementeringsprocessen har brister och implementerade verktyg inte har befästs.

    Rapporten undersöker digitaliseringen på tre projekt hos Skanska Hus Stockholm Bostäder. Syftet är att granska vilka digitala verktyg som används i produktionen, hur de nyttjas samt hur implementeringsprocessen bör ske för att få de icke standardiserade verktygen att stanna kvar. Litteraturstudier samt intervjuer av tjänstemän på projekten formar resultatet av studien som sedan analyseras i avseende av de icke standardiserade verktygen och implementeringsprocessen.

    Studien visar att för nyttjande av verktygen ska ske optimalt behövs det gemensamma standardiserade metoder och att tillgängligheten för arbetsmetoderna för dessa standardiserade verktyg förenklas. Vidare behövs en strukturerad implementeringsprocess som passar projekten skapas för att motivera medarbetarna att förnya sina arbetsmetoder.

    The concept of Bayesian statistics has been applied here to analyse aspects of monitoring the thickness of shotcrete linings. This paper presents a theoretical model describing the relationship between the minimum mean thickness stipulated in the design and the estimated mean thickness of the shotcrete in place. It is shown that prior information as well as, new information systematically can be taken into account in the estimation of the population parameters of shotcrete linings, such as mean values and standard deviation. A performance criterion is introduced that opens up for a transparent and systematic approach to monitor the actual shotcrete thickness in place as well as for means to adapt the mean thickness of the shotcrete in place towards the requirements of the design.

    Sweden is expanding and a lot of constructions are under process across the country, but especially in the cities. There are residential areas, business areas, industrial areas, infrastructure being built and are resulting in a future society. It is under great pressure and competition building projects are being carried out. Due to the time constraints that the construction companies face, enormous cooperation is needed between all parties involved. Although industry actors claim that coordination between all parties is enormously important, it is not covered enough in over half of all projects. This thesis examines explores why coordination fails, what the consequences are and explains how important the coordination is and that it should be prioritized throughout the construction process. Interviews and questionnaires have given a clear picture of how coordination looks today, why it is lacking, what it takes to improve it, and what the consequences of defective coordination are. Furthermore, the comparative study and review of ÄTA has provided an understanding of the financial consequences that arise due to defective coordination. The thesis examines also describe how to improve the construction process by providing enough space for coordination, in both projection and production.

    Abstract [en]

    Horizontal loads caused by, for example, wind loads, initial sway imperfections and initial

    bow imperfections, can result in lateral torsional buckling and must therefore be managed. A

    common method used to handle lateral torsional buckling is lateral and torsional restraints,

    but in order to restrain a constructional element it’s important to have knowledge of how the

    element behaves during lateral torsional buckling. In this study the importance of the restrain

    for truss elements affected by initial bow imperfections has been considered.

    The truss element is a constructional element that in many ways acts like a beam, but how it

    behaves during lateral torsional buckling is a non-fully investigated area. With the help of a

    FEM-software initial bow imperfect models have therefore been drawn up and analysed to

    provide deeper understanding for how and when lateral and torsional restraints are of

    importance. The models have been trialled with different section heights, support conditions

    (simply and continuously supported) and boundary conditions for the diagonals.

    When comparing a truss model to a beam model with the same conditions, it was

    demonstrated how the difference between the elements were due to the support conditions of

    the lower chord.

    The study has demonstrated how the upper chord of the truss element can be restrained by a

    horizontal truss construction, but for the truss element to reach global stability it’s critical that

    the lower chord is restrained via the upper chord by overlying ridges. This cannot be realised

    until the diagonals can utilize the torsional connection from the ridges, which means that a

    fixed connection between diagonals and upper chord of truss element must be executed in a

    technically correct manner.

    The results have shown that a general relationship between restraint force and axial force

    exists, and that it can be compared with the recommendation from the Eurocode EC3. The

    results have also shown that a recommendation for the relationship between local moment

    appearing in the truss connections and axial force can be provided, which is helpful to the

    design process of the connections.
