    Abstract [en]

    Today, when the housing industry is growing faster than in a long time energy house holding is becoming more important for every day. Economic and environmental interests from house owners, when it comes to increasing energy prices and energy house holding, both leads to a more conscious house building. This includes the buildings U-value, energy smart installations and other energy saving arrangements.This examination paper has been written for Bjerking to investigate the possibility to centralize the heating in a housing society of several semi-detached houses instead of heating them locally with the standard solution, an exhaust air heat pump per apartment.This examination paper includes a few calculations of energy losses and life cycle costs for the different heating systems. It also includes a bit of statistic for different types of heating in Sweden.It has ended in cost calculations that can be used when thinking about and planning to build semi-detached houses with central heating.

    Abstract [en]

    The development in the construction industry is slowly but surely moving forward. The industry has begun to understand the successes and opportunities of digitizing itself, but it is a long journey that is constantly improving. In the construction industry's digitization, it is mostly common that it talks about BIM, a concept that has many different meanings. Simply explained, it is about connecting a 3D model with different types of information, which can provide many opportunities for streamlining the construction of the building and the project. It is mainly talked about the possibility of obtaining a 4D (time) and 5D (cost) models through a 3D model. Many housing production companies have begun their journey towards a digital world and JM AB is definitely one of them. In 2018, JM AB began to work with its ambition to one day be the leading actor in the industry of digitization. Part of the digitization work takes place within the calculations department at JM, where the department in this now makes quantity and cost estimations in the Vico Office program. It is the calculations department that produces the production costing for the construction start and this is also done in VO. Thanks to the development in digitalization, they can now make clear connections between time schedule and costs with 3D models as a base. A calculation that is not linked in this way is the overhead cost calculation. This requires a study into how the calculation can be linked to a 5D model and in the long run be able to contribute to the development of the production costing, which for us is the purpose of the report. This study focuses on developing various key figures for overhead costs that can be linked to 5D calculation. In this process, interviews with experts have been required, in order to get a clear picture of both, who establishes the calculations and how they are produced. To confirm and strengthen what has been said in the interviews, literature in the form of articles and books has been used. The result in the report shows what is required in 5D calculation of the production costing in VO. It also shows which key figures have been produced based on data from the specified comparison projects. In order for the key figures to be best visualized and reported in VO, they need to be linked to a time frame, which in this case is the projects timetable. The aim of the report has been to improve the analysis of estimated production costs with the application of 5D calculation. The compilation of key figures on costs, which is visualized in VO, aims to optimize the projects by producing better connections between cost and time. The report's reliability must of course be validated on the basis of the company's, JM, response to the rapport. This visualization and key figures presentation are an example of how a possible approach might look. The procedure and the 5D visualization are also the first of its kind within the company JM AB.

    Abstract [en]

    Water-

    and waste water systems plays a huge role in today’s management of storm-, waste and

    drinking water. Part of the water- and waste water systems are pipelines located below ground

    level whose purpose is to supply homes, schools and companies with water and to drain storm

    and waste water. Stockholm Vatten och Avfall manages over 200 Swedish miles of water

    pipelines and 300 Swedish miles of waste water pipelines in Stockholm. Adding new pipelines to

    the system and change the existing pipelines requires sustainable investment decisions to be taken

    at early stages of projects. When estimating the costs of a pipeline construction project, many

    different costs has to be taken into account, especially the excavation costs and machinery and

    materials costs. In order to do this, Stockholm Vatten och Avfall has previously been using a

    calculation tool that estimates the cost of a pipeline construction project in an excavated pipeline

    trench. This calculation tool is based on prices that are not current for current conditions. In order

    to make the calculation tool useful with today’s prices, reference projects have been collected and

    divided into inner city and suburban areas along with inputs and economic facts. Based on these

    inputs, factors have been calculated which the output from the calculation tool has been multiplied

    with and then been compared t

    o the calculation tool after the tool’s prices have been updated. A

    regression

    – and correlation analysis was then made to determine which of the methods best

    describe the reference projects and the largest correlation was found in the calculation tool with

    updated prices.

    Abstract [en]

    During the 1990’s a large number of building projects were revealed where lack of moist

    safety precautions during the construction process had led to extensive moisture damage. Also

    resent implemented studies have shown that the problems with moisture damages have rather

    increased than decreased during the past few years. Moist is considered to be one of the main

    factors to cause unhealth due to deficiencies in the indoor-environment and does also cause

    unnecessary expenses and a reduction of the confidence in the construction industry.

    In this Bachelor of Science thesis three projects have been reviewed to examine how moistsafety

    has been observed during the construction process. Main focus has been to identify the

    building components that are the most exposed to moist, and to examine how they have been

    taken into account during the period of design and construction. The objective of the review

    has been to get an overview of the moist-safety precautions taken by the municipality of

    Karlstad, in order to develop guidelines for future projects. The information that the review

    has given has been used to establish a template that can be used to create a “Moist-safetydescription”.

    Abstract [en]

    In many of the industrialized lean construction efforts in the construction industry today, collaborative communication and its supporting ICT have been reduced to a secondary issue in favour of rationalizing the physical design and production processes, as if effective project communication practices and technologies are taken for granted. Often when ICT based communication is discussed and managed in construction it often only comprises the technical aspects of information handling, such as modelling, classification and standardization. This paper introduces the subject field of Project Communication, which considers the improvement of organization, group processes, work procedures, as well as the sharing and transfer of knowledge between different professional domains in projects and corporations. The subject area has a special focus on the concept of the integration of project organizations and the creation of an effective platform for collaboration through shared ICT business tools. One prioritized field of research in this area is the problematic issue of creating true usefulness, user acceptance and organizational adoption of ICT in project team work. The paper describes four indicative feasibility studies in Project Communication in the Swedish construction sector. It argues that to solve the practical problems that the industry is encountering, as described in the studies, the perspective must be widened so as to include information and communication technology from an organizational and management viewpoint.

    Bridge edge beam system is an increasing concern in Sweden. Because it is the mostvisible part of the structure which is subjected to harsh weather. The edge beamcontributes to the stiffness of overhang slab and helps to distribute the concentratedload. The design of edge beam is not only affected by the structural members, but it isalso affected by non-structural members.The aim of the thesis is to investigate the influence of edge beam on the structuralbehavior of reinforced concrete overhang slab. A three-dimensional (3D) non-linearfinite element model is developed by using the commercial software ABAQUS version6.1.14. The load displacement curves and failure modes were observed. The bendingmoment and shear capacity of the cantilever slab is studied.The validated model from non-linear analysis of reinforced concrete slab gives morestiffer result and leads to the high value of load capacity when comparing with theexperimental test. The presence of the edge beam in the overhang slab of length 2.4 mslightly increases the load capacity and shows ductile behavior due to the self-weightof the edge beam. The non-linear FE-analysis of overhang slab of length 10 m leads tomuch higher load capacity and gives stiffer response as compare to the overhang slabof 2.4 m. The presence of the edge beam in the overhang slab of length 10 m giveshigher load capacity and shows stiffer response when comparing with the overhangslab of length 10 m. This might be due to the self-weight of the edge beam and theoverhang slab is restrained at the right side of the slab.

    For every year, the authority requirements regarding building technology gets more acute andintense. In Boverkets byggregler 19 automatic sprinkler system changed from advice to requirement.Purpose of this report is to identify pretension for installation of automatic sprinkler system inbuildings in Sweden with focus in authority requirements through literatures and interviews.Requirements for installation of automatic sprinkler system are controlled by the parliament byPlanning and Building Act. The requirements clarify and gets clearer for every authority all the way toSvensk standard where the requirements adjust into details and regulates terms like response time,pressure and design density. The requirements are dimensional and customized for different activityand section.Authority requirements settles the pretension for installation of automatic sprinkler system in somebuildings for care in the same time insurance companies settles the pretension for installation ofautomatic sprinkler system in industry buildings. Conclusion for this report is that requirements forinstallation of automatic sprinkler system are different depends on if authority or insurancecompanies settles them. Requirements from authority focus in protection of lives while insurancecompanies focus in property loss. Boverket wants insurance companies to be more responsible foruse of automatic sprinkler system in other buildings than buildings for care.Different requirements from different parts of the society specifies in this report just to let thereader have an insight how jurisprudence affects technology in building industry.

    Abstract [en]

    Trafikverket is responsible for one of Sweden’s largest infrastructure project, namely replacing the current signal system along the countries railway to ERTMS. With the replacement of the signal system comes the need to replace 1 500 equipment shelters. The task is to analyze costs for the equipment shelter’s current foundation standard and try to find cheaper solutions. The work is mainly executed by analyzing alternative materials and foundations, but also manufacturing, installation, logistics, impacting loads and geology. One of the goals is to reduce the current costs of the project, and the main task is to find a new foundation standard that Trafikverket can use for future equipment shelters. The most common foundation types for equipment shelters turned out to be crawling spaces and plinth foundations out of sheet-metal and concrete. The report also presents ground screws, which is a new idea for equipment shelters. The report’s conclusion is that ground screws are the cheapest and most flexible foundation for equipment shelters. Even sheet-metal frames, which are a more common option today, proved to be a more economical choice than the current standard. The total saving turned out to be near 34 million SEK with ground screws and therefore one of the objectives has been achieved. The main goal of possibly finding a new standard, however, requires future investigations by Trafikverket before it can be determined possible.

    A recommendation to Trafikverket is to further investigate the price of foreign suppliers’ ground screws and determine if the installation is to be carried out on its own. For further studies, a detailed cost analysis of cantilevered houses and transports is recommended.

    When it comes to choose of installation solutions, it's often very difficult to choose the right one. Among other things, there are many solutions to choose from while thinking about which one fits best. Five key issues that have contributed to this report is: Who is the customer? What does the customer want? How does the customer want it? When does the customer want it? What does the customer want to pay? In addition to these issues, the choice of installation solution can also depend on where you live in the country, if it is often cold, blowing and raining, these questions could affect the choice. These issues are often common among new homeowners, building new house or buying old home customers. The report contains different comparisons to those installation solutions that are favorites among all customers according to the suppliers and will make it easier for the homeowner to choose the right installation for the house. Several companies have been interviewed about what they think is the best option. However, several sources have been investigated and checked to give the reader a good instruction manual. Where the customer will have the ability to ask the questions to the supplier.

    Abstract [en]

    In Sweden there are many ice halls and ice halls climate differ from the usual buildings' climate, because temperatures are lower indoors than outdoors during the summer months. This results in a higher vapor content outdoors compared with indoors during the course of the year. Moisture transport takes place from the outside towards the ice halls, which is contrary to what happens in a common building.

    During the critical period, the vapor transport direction is inward. When the hot air hits the cold surface of the wall structure, it leads to a risk of condensation in the wall that leads to moisture damage. Moisture damage can impair the wall structure and lead to unwanted consequences.

    The purpose of this study was to dimension a number of walls that meet climate conditions, which are done by dynamic humidity calculation in WUFI Pro 5.1 with adapted climate data and real climate data and then mold analysis in WUFI Bio.

    The aim of the bachelor thesis work was that the results from this study can then be used as a guide to the future building of ice skating walls.

    The results from WUFI Pro 5.1 and WUFI Bio have shown that a number of walls designed during this master thesis are judged to work as well as revealed how an ice hallway wall should not be constructed.

    The conclusion shows that climate conditions control the design of the wall structure.

    When casting a residential floor, formwork and shore removal is an important element. There aresome doubts in the industry about when and how to remove the shores. There are instructionsavailable but they are often outdated and difficult to interpret. As a result, they are often notfollowed. Appliances such as measuring equipment and simulation software are available but areused sparingly. To avoid accidents and to ensure that the strength of the concrete is sufficientwithout appliances, excessive time margins are used. This will most likely result in unnecessarily longshoring times.During the course of the work, the subject will be studied in detail to create a clear picture of howthe many different factors of the casted floor influence each other. The purpose is to propose asuitable time to remove the shores. This is done in order to determine if there is improvementpotential, partly to improve the working environment, but also to review the instructions of theapproach.The methods used to reach the result are:• Study of the documents describing the procedure of shoring and reshoring• Calculate the compressive strength of the concrete with the device “BI Distant”• Simulate the compressive strength of the concrete in the program Hett 11.• Interviews by experts in the industry.The results show that the shores could theoretically be removed earlier compared to when they areusually removed in practice. One reason for this is that drying times are governing during theproduction. This means that increased concrete qualities and faster curing times than those thatwere planned, were used in construction, particularly at low temperatures. The conclusion is thatthere is an improvement potential in this area. Reshoring can be done only a few days after castingunder good conditions. The advantages of this are that the number of shores can be reduced. Thisleads to reduced rents, and the accessibility for the subsequent professionals and operations can beimproved.

    The municipality of Norrköping currently grows by 1,500 people a year. In order to cope with the increased housing demand, the municipality has chosen to focus, among other things, on transforming a large industrial area just a stone's throw from the city center of Norrköping. The area called Industrilandskapet consists largely of old factories used in the 20th century. The area is also characterized by unused and poorly utilized land.Today, it is being built extensively in the area and in order to bring in exciting and attractive buildings into the landscape Norrköping municipality has announced three land allocation competitions for apartment buildings. This degree project is about the last of these three, the neighborhood Garvaren.The competition concerns two house bodies, a larger L-shaped house and a smaller, rectangular house. The work resulted in a complete competition proposal, but in the report the focus is mainly on the process up to the finished design as well as a more detailed description of the proposal and its parts.

    Year 2030 there will be up to 500 000 more individuals over the age of 75 comparing to today. Approximately every fourth individual in the age of 75-84 have a reduced mobility. Many of them lives in houses with low availability and adaption to the specific needs of the individual. The low availability contributes to a decreased living situation and it can lead to impaired quality of life.

    Loneliness is common among elderly and can contribute to increased concern, insecurity and depression. Loneliness is often based on a feeling of missing a social context of participation and community. A form of housing were elderly meet can recreate this feeling of community and belonging which can contribute to increased activity and quality of life for the individual.

    A accommodation with a higher grade of availability and factors for increased quality gives a possibility for the individual to live longer in their own home. The remained living contributes to increased security for the individual who is allowed to age in a well-known environment. The social costs are expected to decrease if more individuals age in their own homes since the costs of home care are lower than the costs for retirement home for the same individual.

    The purpose of the report is to present the problems around elderly's housing situation and present improvements.

    The goal is to present the design of a senior housing with a cohousing alignment which creates communion and security for the residents.

    Abstract [en]

    When choosing a heating system for a house it is important to weigh in the different prosand cons, because every system is good in its own way. Which heating system may be ofinterest, depending on the conditions of the house and its requirements?This thesis will compare district heating, geothermal heating and exhaust air heating on aspecific brand new house. The result will base on the heating systems costs, lifetime,maintenance and environmental impact.The result has proven that for this particular house, the exhaust air heating pump hasbeen dominant in the calculations performed.
