Abstract [en]

Obsolescence, defined as the transition of a component from being available tounavailable from the original manufacturer, has raised concern in industries wherethe asset works for a long time, such as the railway sector. It becomes more of aproblem when it causes disruption to the operations. While standards and guidanceregarding obsolescence for other industries are available, i.e. military, avionics, andnuclear, no universal guidelines exist in the railway sector, especially for rolling stock.This study develops a framework on how obsolescence management can be applied toaddress the issue. The exploratory analysis method is adapted through the literaturesurvey, adopting a taxonomy and convergent study approach to the rolling stocksector, and integrating it with relevant common practices. The framework of aproactive strategy is presented in five steps: Initiation-Identification-AssessmentExecution-Monitoring, and it incorporates principles from the CSM-RA (CommonSafety Method and Risk Assessment). This approach is proposed to reduceobsolescence risks and enhance rolling stock utilization

Inkurans, definierad som övergången av en komponent från att vara tillgänglig tillotillgänglig från den ursprungliga tillverkaren, har väckt oro i branscher där tillgångenfungerar under lång tid, såsom järnvägssektorn. Det blir mer av ett problem när detorsakar störningar i verksamheten. Även om standarder och vägledning om inkuransfinns tillgängliga för andra industrier, såsom militär, flygelektronik och kärnkraft,finns inga universella riktlinjer inom järnvägssektorn, särskilt för rullande materiel.Denna studie utvecklar ett ramverk för hur inkuranshantering kan tillämpas för attlösa problemet. Den explorativa analysmetoden anpassas genom en litteratursökninglitteraturundersökningen, med en taxonomi och konvergent studiemetod för rullandematerielsektorn och integrerar den med relevanta vanliga metoder.
