Abstract [en]

This entry presents the complexity of the term vandalism as an action and a criminal offence. It begins by defining vandalism from ancient Roman times to the internet era. Then, the motivation behind this damaging behavior is presented followed by a discussion of the typical sites and the temporal patterns of vandalism. Particular attention is given to the impact of vandalism on the quality of neighborhoods and on the housing market. This entry also reviews current interventions for tackling vandalism as well as some emerging future avenues for research.
