This chapter reports young peoples’ experiences of sexual victimization and perception of safety in public transportation (PT) in eastern Mexico City, Mexico. The analysis is based on a survey conducted on 381 university students in 2018. Women are victims of sexual assaults in greater proportion than men, but victimization varies by type of offense, length of the trip, transportation mode, and frequency of use of PT. Traveling during the day or being accompanied by other persons and avoiding wearing jewelry, are measures frequently taken by students on the bus and Metro to avoid sexual victimization. Public policies aimed at reducing sexual transit crimes should consider different transportation modes at different stages of the trips.
