Women and LGBT+ groups in Brazil are often targets of assault and sexual violence while in transit. This chapter reports the results of this survey conducted in 2018, focusing on victimization and safety concerns among 462 university students in a middle-sized town in São Paulo State, Brazil. Results show that LGBT+, especially young women, tend to be overrepresented among those victimized by sexual harassment crime (LGBT+ with 31.7% of victims, 120% more than non-LGBT+ and women with 26.5% of victims, 250% more than men). These groups declare having more often safety concerns, which in turn, limits their mobility. This chapter also reveals the types of places they feel most unsafe and discusses a set of measures that can be implemented to improve mobility safety among university students.
