Abstract [en]
Cycling is often recognised as a versatile solution for urban development challenges such as airpollution, congestion and segregation of urban spaces. The City of Stockholm therefore aims toincrease its cycling modal share and has adopted a strategic plan for developing a cohesive cyclingnetwork. In making effective spatial planning decisions, models of transportation network traffic flowsform an important tool for decision makers. This thesis investigates the efficiency of the delineatedcycle route network of Stockholm through a traffic flow model based on aggregation oforigin-destination shortest path routings. Results indicated an overall high degree of congruencybetween modelled traffic flows and the municipal cycle plan. Identified discrepancies are discussedand suggestions are made for reassessment of certain cycling routes. We conclude with a discussion ofmodel aspects and potential areas of improvement for further research.
