Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to investigate Beyond Design Basis Accident of Small Modular Reactor in a Nuclear Powerplant. As the energy industry seeks innovative solutions for reduction of carbon emissions, nuclear solutions have gained attention as considerable alternatives. However, ensuring the safety of these systems is a tough challenge. By modeling and analyzing nuclear reactor behaviour with Symbolic Nuclear Analysis Package and MELCOR programs, this thesis provides insights into Beyond Design Basis Accidents for a Nuclear Powerplant. The research results in determination of the amount of released radionuclides into the containment in case of a station blackout scenario and also the estimated evacuation time for the crew of the Nuclear Powerplant.

Abstract [sv]

Syftet med denna avhandling är att undersöka Beyond Design Basis Accident hos små Modulär reaktor i ett kärnkraftverk. I takt med att energibranscheninnovativa lösningar för att minska koldioxidutsläppen, har kärnkraftslösningar uppmärksammats som betydande alternativ. Att säkerställa säkerheten för dessasystem är en tuff utmaning. Genom att modellera och analysera kärnreaktorers beteende med Symbolic Nuclear Analysis Package och MELCOR-programmen, ger insikter i Beyond Design Basis Accidents för kärnkraftverk. Forskningen resulterar i bestämning av mängden utsläppt kärnbränsle i händelse av en allvarlig olycka och även uppskattningen av evakueringstiden för besättningen på kärnkraftverket.
