Teaching Technology to Newly Arrived Students : Challenges and Didactic Adaptations (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This thesis explores how language influences newly arrived students' ability to participate and succeed in technology education in Swedish lower secondary schools, and how instruction can be didactically adapted to their needs. The study is based on qualitative interviews with technology teachers experienced in teaching newly arrived students. Findings highlight language barriers, cultural mismatches, digital divides, and a lack of systematic support as major challenges. The study also illustrates how teachers use visual aids, translanguaging, and hands-on activities to provide more accessible and inclusive technology education.
