Kvantmekanik är ett område i fysiken som många har hört talas om men som få har en djupare förståelse för. Området handlar om interaktioner mellan små partiklar och är på många sätt abstrakt, vilket gör området svårt att förstå och ännu svårare att lära ut. Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka vilka svårigheter fysiklärare möter vid planering av och undervisning i kvantmekanik på gymnasiet. Arbetet ska resultera i ett undervisningsmaterial som lärare kan använda som stöd i sin planering av sin kvantmekanikundervisning. Med hjälp av intervjuer, kunde data samlas in om vilka svårigheter fysiklärare upplever i kvantmekanikundervisning. Genom en tematisk analys och tidigare forskning kunde olika delområden i kvantmekanik och kopplade svårigheter identifieras. Från detta utvecklades ett undervisningsmaterial bestående av tre moduler. Dessa skickades ut till fysiklärare som fick ge återkoppling i uppföljande intervjuer. Till sist reviderades modulerna utifrån lärarnas ändringsförslag. Resultatet visar på fyra olika svårigheter som fysiklärare upplever i sin undervisning. Svårigheterna var abstraktionsnivån, förkunskaper, svårare områden i undervisningen och undervisningsmaterial. Modulerna innehåller bland annat simuleringar, demonstrationer, exempelsamlingar och diskussionsfrågor som lärare kan använda i sin undervisning. Lärare kan använda hela eller specifika delar av modulerna beroende vad som passar deras undervisning bäst.

Abstract [en]

Quantum mechanics is a field of physics that most people have heard of, but few truly understand. The subject deals with interactions between small particles and is, in many ways, abstract, making it difficult to grasp and even harder to teach. The aim of this project is to investigate the challenges physics teachers face when planning and teaching quantum mechanics at the upper secondary school level. The study aims to result in a teaching resource that teachers can use to support their planning of quantum mechanics instruction. Through interviews, data was collected on the difficulties experienced by physics teachers. A thematic analysis, combined with previous research, helped identify specific subtopics within quantum mechanics and the related challenges. Based on the analysis, three teaching modules were developed. These modules were shared with physics teachers, who provided feedback and suggestions for improvement in follow-up interviews. The modules were then revised based on this feedback. The results reveal four main challenges teachers encounter: the abstract nature of the subject, students’ prior knowledge, difficult subtopics, and limitations of existing teaching materials. The modules include simulations, demonstrations, collections of example problems, and discussion questions that teachers can incorporate into their lessons. Teachers may choose to use entire modules or select specific parts, depending on what suits their needs best.
