The point where all the power and communications enter a building or system is often called the Point of Entry (=PoE). This is often the first line of defence against conducted transients. A PoE system has been built following normal power installation procedures and standards and using commercially available components. The surge protectors and other components response to EFT (electrically fast transients) with nanosecond rise time, was compared to the response of a lightning electromagnetic pulse (LEMP), used as a reference pulse. Also the tendency of EFT transients to couple to adjacent conductors not use were investigated and compared to the reference pulse.
