A survey of press jointing machines for pipe working used on the Swedish market has been made together with an evaluation of the working environment when using them. Work site analyses with subjective and objective methods were carried out. The results show that many work tasks are inappropriate regarding ergonomics. One important reason is that work is carried out at poor postures above shoulder level. It is concluded that work with press jointing machines for pipe work in ceilings is ergonomically unsuitable. However, the existing alternative methods also lead to high strains, mainly since the postures are similar.
