Abstract [en]

Light does not interact with magnetic fields like charged particles do, but its transport can still be shaped by synthetic gauge fields. Here we implement this idea on a programmable photonic processor using a discretized Floquet protocol on a three-site triangle. Each driving period is split into three sequential pairwise couplings, realized with a reconfigurable Mach–Zehnder interferometer mesh and calibrated thermo-optic phase shifters. We operate each substep as a Rabi pi-pulse to transfer population almost completely along the active bond. The sequence order sets the direction of circulation. In the clockwise drive, population moves from site one to site two to site three and returns to site one. Reversing the order yields the opposite circulation and breaks time-reversal symmetry by construction. We measure site populations stroboscopically over the full period and compare them to a model derived from the time-ordered product of the substeps. The measurements agree with the simulations for both drive directions and show the expected circulation. This validates deterministic Floquet control on a programmable photonic chip and shows that discretized evolution can be implemented and measured cleanly in integrated optics.

Abstract [sv]

Ordningen i sekvensen bestämmer cirkulationsriktningen.
