Power amplifier input back-off optimization in ideally predistorted OFDM systems

Abstract [en]

Input back-off optimization in ideally predistorted OFDM systems is considered, in terms of maximizing the signal-to-distortion ratio. An approximate closed form expression for the input back-off is derived, providing achievement over a recently published state-of-the-art iterative optimization procedure. The back-off is shown to be entirely determined by the quotient between squared amplifier saturation voltage and the power of the channel or system noise. The theoretical findings are illustrated by numerical examples of practical relevance. Further, it is shown that maximizing the signal-to-distortion ratio is, in this particular case, equivalent to minimizing the normalized mean-squared-error.
