Abstract [en]

Sweden is working towards the compiled sustainability goals Agenda 2030 in correlation to the high carbon dioxide emission from the construction sector. With the rapid increase in population and the housing shortage, coliving is a sustainable solution for today's problems. The concept of coliving is about combining private bedrooms with common areas to contribute to a reduced social isolation in society. The purpose of this study is to investigate what coliving looks like in Sweden and to investigate regulations regarding the form of housing. The goal is to find out whether the current regulations are hindered or not, and what could possibly change in the regulations. The data was collected through qualitative surveys and qualitative semi-structured interviews. The material was then analyzed through comparisons and examinations of the graphs produced. Overall, the results show that the building regulations are not controlled but are deficient in certain areas. We have come to the conclusion that if new building regulations for coliving are created, it means a better rental agreement and safer fire protection for the tenants. The result indicates that coliving is a popular form of housing provided that only spaces such as each living room and kitchen are shared, but not in the bathroom and thus interesting for property developers.
