Gullpigan 2.0 is a design proposal that repurposes a 1980s type kindergarten in Hammarbyhöjden into a public space with a restaurant, workshop, studio, and event space. The project is based on a study of standardized kindergartens built during Sweden’s welfare expansion, many of which are now underused due to demographic changes. The design keeps parts of the original structure while making selective changes to improve openness and flexibility. The goal is to explore how these buildings might serve new functions while remaining connected to their original context and character, using the characteristics of the Swedish 1970s and 1980s type kindergarten as a design tool.
