Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This thesis covers the security of Human-Robot Collaboration and how its implementation affects production in the heavy industry. This, with respect to various aspects such as efficiency, safety and social conditions. Human-Robot Collaboration is an interaction between humans and collaborative robots. Robots that are neither fenced, nor placed far from human operators. The purpose of this study was to find out if Human-Robot Collaboration implantation is beneficial for manufacturing companies in the heavy industry, i.e., if it is resource efficient. The study was conducted using literature studies and interviews at two big truck-manufacturing companies namely Scania and Volvo Trucks. In addition, a visit was made to Scania’s Smart Factory Lab in Södertälje.
The literature research claimed that HRC applications would significantly improve resource efficiency in manufacturing companies. The results from the interviews however, showed a different picture. According to the results of the interviews, large manufacturing companies such as Scania and Volvo Trucks do not consider HRC as a method to make the production more efficient. Instead, they see it as an application to facilitate it. One of the very few advantages with HRC applications is the ability to replace repetitive and physical tasks. Thus, improving human conditions such as human ergonomics. Furthermore, HRC applications imply the possibility to place collaborative robots without fencing or protection in the facilities, for example by using transport robots. These can move around freely in the facilities and for instance deliver necessary materials and tools to different stations. This makes the production efficient. The report also draws attention to the fact that, based on the result of the study, future study may consider focusing on HRC’s impact in companies with standardised products and little variability.
