Abstract [en]

This study thoroughly investigates the regional and local geography, geology, and the pre- and post-glacial development of Kymlinge's valley. The aim is to trace the valley's origin and its relation to the geomorphological features of the Larger Stockholm Area (LSA). The research focuses on the analysis of metasedimentary and metamorphic rocks and soils, revealing post-glacial deposits and their correlation with the depth of soil layers. The study shows that these factors are interdependent, describing Kymlinge's valley's Quaternary formation through fine-grained sediment deposition in deeper waters and moraine deposition on elevated land. This contrasts with the joint valley landscape of the LSA from the Pre-Quaternary period. Additionally, the report explores the interactions between climate change, geological context, health, and society by examining the social impacts of climate change and geological hazards. The study includes an illustrated analysis of SAR data monitoring surface deformation, vegetation loss, and waterbody expansion in Kymlinge's valley.
