Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates the impact of foldered email interfaces on user productivity and stress levels compared to the traditional all-in-one inbox design. Despite being a cornerstone of digital communication, the standard email interface has seen limited evolution, often failing to support efficient email management. To evaluate the benefits of a folder-based approach, a comparative usability study was conducted in which participants completed email-related tasks using two interfaces: one resembling automatic foldering and another resembling a standard unified inbox. Metrics such as task completion time, accuracy, and perceived stress were measured through usability testing. Results showed that the foldered interface improved task efficiency by 30% and increased accuracy by 10%. Furthermore, users reported lower stress levels and a more positive overall experience when using the organized, structured interface. These findings imply that a foldering-focused redesign of email systems has the potential to enhance usability and user satisfaction.
