Global expansion of battery technology has increased the demand for metal resources but also recovering metals from spent batteries. The Metal-Organic-Framework SU-102 was tested as a selective adsorbent for recovery of metal ions but also its chemical stability under acidic conditions. SU-102 was synthesized by optimizing key factors such as temperature, rection time. The MOF was characterized by using PXRD, BET, SEM and for adsorption selectiveness with ICP-OES. The synthesis conditions that resulted in most crystallinity was 120°C with a reaction time of 1 hour giving a BET surface area of 406 m2/g. ICP-OES measurement showed that SU-102 is highly selective towards Ca, Mg, Mn and less selective for Co and Ni. SU-102 was shown to be stable with HCl(aq) and less stable with the other acids. SU-102 was shown to be selective towards Ca, Mn and Mg with high removal efficiencies and stable with HCl(aq) but not with other acids.
